Fun winter family activities in Berlin
Winter in Berlin is a great time for a family ice skating session and when the weather is not so nice - for going bouldering or visiting one of the many museums Berlin has to offer. Here are some fun winter family activities in Berlin.
Ice skating
The largest ice rink in Berlin is the Horst-Dohm-Eisstadion (ice stadium) in Charlottenburg. There is a large outdoor rink and a smaller indoor one. You can choose from an Olympic-standard 440-metre speed skating track as well as a figure skating track. And if you do not have any ice skates, you can rent some at the rink. Additionally, you can find refreshments and light snacks from the Eisbärchen snack bar to keep your strength up.
Bouldering
Children aim high and no tree or hill is a high enough obstacle for them. Bouldering is free-climbing and it is a great recreational sport that children can take part in. Boulderworx in Berlin can be a great start as it offers courses for children of various ages to learn bouldering in a fun way. Although the climbers are not attached to a rope to stop them from falling, thick mats on the floor protect them from being injured.
Computerspielemuseum
With over 300 exhibits, the Computerspielemuseum (Computer Games Museum) is all about gaming culture and its development since the early 1950s. The museum not only exhibits well-known and historical games, but it also preserves the necessary technology to be able to play them and other artefacts related to the gaming universe. It aims to deepen the understanding of digital entertainment media and help young visitors develop solid media skills.
Artpark Tegel
While there are loads of places to see street art in Berlin, one of the best is Urban Nation art museum. Artpark Tegel features six large-scale murals part commissioned by Urban Nation. The murals had been commissioned to six different artists, who had complete creative freedom to paint over a 13-story surface. If you want to experience something different from the usual tours, you can also take tours that end with a workshop where you can learn the basics of street art and even make your own piece!
